Margaret Atwood was born on November 18, 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Atwood is a novelist, poet, literary critic, essayist and environmental activist. Atwood began writing at the young age of six and realized it was her life long passion at the at of sixteen. In 1957, she began studying at Victoria College at the University of Toronto. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a minor in philosophy and French. Atwood later obtained her Masters degree from Radcliffe College. Margaret Atwood is seen as one of the worlds leading women novelists. She has written numerous things that make this statement true. Throughout her writing career, she has received numerous awards and honors. She is the author of more that fifty volumes of poetry, children's literature, fiction and non-fiction, but is known mainly for her novels. Here on our website, we chose to focus of two of her poems that affected us the most.
